Bhutan is known for its monasteries, fortresses (or dzongs), and dramatic landscapes that range from subtropical plains to steep mountains and valleys. Bhutan shares its boundary with China, Tibet, and India. The subalpine Himalayan mountains in the north rise from the country's lush subtropical plains in the south In the Bhutanese Himalayas, there are peaks higher than 7,000 meters (23,000 ft) above sea level. Gangkhar Puensum is Bhutan's highest peak and may also be the highest unclimbed mountain in the world. The wildlife of Bhutan is notable for its diversity, including the Himalayan takin. The largest city in Bhutan is the capital Thimphu.  Bhutan official language is Dzongkha.  Bhutan covers 72% forest area of the country which is one of the large biodiversity places around the world and it's also a Tobacco-free country.

How To Reach Bhutan?

By Air: If you are travelling to Bhutan there are only two direct airlines, Drukair and Bhutan Airlines. These flights operate from  Delhi, Gaya, Bagdogra, Kolkata, Mumbai, Guwahati to Paro. Bhutan has only one international airport in Paro.

By Rail: If you are looking for the cheapest way to reach near Indo - Bhutan border then we will recommend you to take the train. Hasimara is the nearest railway station to Jaigaon. which is an Indian town on Indo-Bhutan Border. It is situated at a distance of 17 kms from Jaigaon. There are trains to Hasimara from Kolkata (690 kms), Delhi (1663 kms), Ranchi (749 kms), and Kanpur (1197 kms). Another railway station is New Jalpaiguri that offers decent connectivity.

By Road:  You can enter in Bhutan from Phuentsholing. You can take a private taxi from Bagdogra airport or New Jalpaiguri railway station.

Best time to visit Bhutan:   The best time to visit Bhutan is from the months of March to May when the valleys come alive with flowers in bloom.  it is the time of festivals or festivities, clear skies and glimpses to the Himalayan peaks, flourishing Himalayan flora and fauna, or simply beautiful snowfall.

Important note:   The consumption of tobacco is not altogether prohibited in Bhutan, though it is largely banned in places of public accommodation. The act largely targets smoking in particular, though any form of tobacco is subject to the act. The Tobacco Control Act establishes non-smoking areas: commercial centers including markets, hotel lobbies, restaurants, and bars; recreation centers such as discothèques, cinemas, and playing fields; institutions and offices, both public and private; public gatherings and public spaces such as festivals, taxi stands, and the airport; all public transportation; and any other places declared by the Tobacco Control Board. The board also has the authority to designate smoking areas in public. Smoking areas are permitted in non-public areas of hotels (i.e., smoking floors or smoking rooms) at the discretion of the patron.

Indian nationals do not require any visa to enter Bhutan. As per Bhutanese Immigration, Indian Nationals Traveling to Bhutan by air must possess any one of the following documents.

Paro
If you are travelling by air in Paro than you will land at Paro International airport. Paro is popular for Taktshang Monastery (Tiger nest monastery), Kichu Lhakang, National Museum of Bhutan and Paro Dzong. You can stay here minimum for 2 Nights as one full day required to visit Taktshang Monastery.

Thimpu
Thimpu is beautiful tourist destination and the capital city of Bhutan. The slopes of Wang Chhu, a river valley is a perfect place to spend a quiet afternoon.  It is famous for its museums like Voluntary Artist's Studio, Thimpu, Norzin Lam (textile museum), The National Institute of Traditional Medicine and  The National Folk Heritage Museum.

PUNAKHA
Punakha served as the capital of Bhutan until and still it is the winter seat of Je Khnep (the chief abbot). Blessed with temperate climate and owing to its natural drainage from Pho Chhu (male) and Mo Chhu (female) rivers, the Punakha valley produces abundant crops and fruits. There are splendid views of the distant Himalayas at Dochula pas (alt. 3,050m) on Thimphu – Punakha road.

Phuentsholing
It is a small town in Bhutan. This popular tourist destination in Bhutan caters to both leisure guests and business travellers and you can stay here for 2-3 nights.

Wangdue Phodrang
Wangduephodrang is the last town on the central highway before central Bhutan. The town is not more than an enlarged village with a few well-provided shops. Located in the south of Punakha, the higher reaches of the Wangduephodrang valley provide rich pastureland for cattle. This district is also famous for its fine bamboo products, slate and stone carvings.
